Data Storytelling and Data Visualization

Data storytelling doesn't mean drowning someone in statistics. It's about offering a data-driven insight or two that can change the conversation on a subject.

Few things match the excitement of learning something new. Original data analysis, which leads to data storytelling, offers that opportunity. Analyzing data doesn't always mean downloading enormous files and attempting to manipulate them using software. It can be as simple as looking at a trend over 40 years, and saying, "Let's look at how we got here." Almost any timely topic can benefit from a glance at data. Until recently, I would have said that neither homeowners associations nor synthetic playing surfaces were topics that could benefit from data storytelling. Then, I produced charts that showed the exponential growth of both. Both charts changed the narratives for my clients.
